My Inspiring Journey at the First Ever Women in Paint Conference

In the vast landscape of conferences and conventions, the FIRST EVER Women in Paint Conference through PCA – Painting Contractors Association– held in Nashville stands out as a profound and enriching experience of empowerment, inspiration, and transformation. Two days filled with influential speakers, breaking barriers, learning and growing, encouragement, mentorship, and the opportunity to connect with like-minded women.

As an introverted extrovert, stepping out of my comfort zone to travel across the continent to attend a conference where I literally knew no one was daunting. However, the passion that fueled my journey, the opportunity to learn from remarkable women, and new connections gained made it an adventure worth undertaking.

EMPOWERMENT

The moment I found the conference venue (after letting lost and then having to pin the location in my phone so I could find the conference room on day one!) at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center, I was greeted by a vibrant atmosphere buzzing with enthusiasm and excitement. The energy of 92 women, each with their unique stories and aspirations, created an ambiance of camaraderie and mutual support. The conference was a melting pot of experiences, expertise, and ideas, and being a part of it felt like stepping into a world where barriers are meant to be broken, and dreams are meant to be pursued.

INSPIRATION

One of the most remarkable aspects of the Women in Paint Conference was the array of influential speakers who graced the stage. Their stories were not just narratives of success but tales of resilience, determination, and the power of believing in oneself. Listening to these women, who have overcome countless obstacles to achieve their goals, was nothing short of inspiring. Their words resonated with me, reminding me of the limitless possibilities that awaited when passion and perseverance walked hand in hand.

What made the experience even more memorable was the sense of encouragement that permeated every session. Whether it was during speaker presentations, table discussions, or one-on-one interactions, there was a shared spirit of uplifting one another. The conference served as a nurturing ground where ideas are exchanged, advice is given, and dreams are supported. I found myself surrounded by mentors – strong, influential women who were more than willing to share their knowledge and experiences.

Being an introverted extrovert, attending a conference of this magnitude, where I didn’t know a single person, was initially intimidating. Yet, the warmth and inclusivity of the women I met shattered my reservations. I made connections that went beyond the confines of the conference hall – connections that blossomed into friendships. I met women I have been following on social media for years or who’s podcasts I listen to regularly, women whose journeys I admire from afar. To meet them in person and engage in meaningful conversations was a surreal experience, grounding the virtual admiration I had for them into tangible, real-life connections.

COMMUNITY

Being a part of this conference opened the doors to a new community for me – the community of women in trades. Being a part of this group gave me with a sense of belonging, knowing that I was surrounded by individuals who understood the challenges and triumphs of navigating traditionally male-dominated fields. The shared camaraderie fosters an environment where stories are shared, lessons are learned, and aspirations are celebrated and it was truly inspiring.

RECOGNITION

One of the most significant aspects of my attendance was the opportunity that came my way through a scholarship to attend the conference. This generous gesture not only made my participation possible but also highlighted the importance of inclusivity and equal opportunities. It reinforced the notion that empowering women was not just a rhetoric but a commitment, a tangible step towards creating a more equitable future.

In my experience, attending events funded by certain business models can be very recruitment-driven, where participants are encouraged to recruit others with aggressive and manipulative sales tactics. I HATE the feeling of being pressured to sign up with the company or organization with the promise of money, gifts and rewards and misleading marketing claims and the lack of transparency. Let me tell you, I never once felt pressured into becoming a member of PCA or felt like the conference was designed to recruit members. In fact, non members are included just as much as members. The benefits of joining the PCA have nothing to do with money or gifts but rather endless training opportunities, event discounts, industry partner discounts and connections to amazing like minded business owners.

MAKING MEMORIES

What made my journey to the Women in Paint Conference even more special was the decision to turn it into a family trip. Bringing my husband and son along allowed me to share the excitement and the newfound connections with them. They also took a “boys only” side trip to Columbus, Ohio while I was at the conference where they took in a hockey game and visited the Columbus Zoo before flying back to spend the last two days of the trip with me. Together, we explored the city, enjoying its attractions, attended a college football game, and soaked in the unique atmosphere of Nashville.

Attending the Women in Paint Conference in Nashville was a transformative experience that pushed me out of my comfort zone and into a realm of endless possibilities. It was more than just a conference; it was a journey of self-discovery, empowerment, inspiration, and connection. The conference reminded me of the power of passion, the importance of breaking barriers, and the significance of supporting one another in our pursuits. It introduced me to a community of strong, resilient women, and it reinforced my belief in the ability to learn and grow, regardless of the challenges that may come my way. Nashville, with its vibrant energy and welcoming spirit, provided the perfect backdrop for this empowering experience, turning a simple conference trip into a life-changing adventure.

As I returned home, I carried with me not just knowledge and inspiration but also a newfound confidence and a network of incredible women who would continue to inspire and uplift me on my journey. The Women in Paint Conference is an event I will cherish and hold close to my heart. Already looking forward to the next event!!
