So this is the beginning of a blogging journey

After taking myself down the rabbit hole of blogging, algorithms, hosting, domain names, analytics, niches, organic growth, SEO, page views and other social media terms, I needed a mental break to process!! Legit, I had a headache from info overload! Thus The Confessions of a Design Geek blog was born!

Wikipedia defines “geek” as an expert or enthusiast obsessed with a hobby or intellectual pursuit. Hence, I guess I can call myself a design geek. I have been a furniture artist for years. I launched a home redesign service refinishing kitchen and bathroom cabinets last year. I am a certified Interior redesigner currently working on a Nordic and Scandinavian design program. I will be writing more about this topic in future posts.

The Confessions of a Design Geek Blog

A Risk Taking Design Geek

I have owned a brick-and-mortar furniture redesign studio since November 2020- smack in the middle of a global pandemic. I guess you could say I am somewhat of an risk-taker! The Confessions of a Design Geek is just an extension of that passion for design and a way to spread my love of furniture and home redesign. Fun Fact: I majored in Journalism at University, so this little blog is a full-circle moment coming back to writing.

I spent 16 years in the corporate world of oil and gas. Just over 2 years ago, I left it all behind to focus on my furniture redesign business (another risky move!). It seems the world is moving at a fast pace towards all things online or automated, so I have created this little corner of the internet as a space for all things interior redesign, home décor, furniture painting and a little bit of lifestyle to empower you to make your home reflect You.

Design that Doesn’t Break the Bank

I will only recommend products or projects I have used or done myself. I consider myself thrifty, so I look for products that save money and don’t break the bank. I promote refinishing the furniture (since that’s my career!) and space you already have, not buying new or complete start-from-scratch home makeovers. You can always work with what you have and improve it rather than contribute to the overspending, saturated consumer lifestyle.

I hope you follow along on this journey with me to read the occasional post on my favourite places to find home décor goodies, my latest podcast obsession or what one of my dogs wrecked this week –trust me, I could have an entire blog just on what my dogs have destroyed, barfed on, or got muddy in any given week.

So let’s take this design geek space and learn, create and have some fun along the way!!
